About University

Sambalpur University was established in 1967 and started its academic curriculum in a rented private building at Dhanupali and in a government building at Ainthapali, Sambalpur. The university established its own campus at Burla in 1973. Presently, the university has its jurisdiction over 6 districts namely Sambalpur, Deogarh, Athamallik, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, and Boudh. It is working as a State University with the approval of UGC and is accredited by NAAC with A grade. Vision: The university vision is to make its students globally competitive in their respective fields with a sense of society engagements and personality development. It is committed to create and sustain a transformative educational environment for its students, staff, and faculty. Mission: It aims for the holistic development of the students by providing moral based education and developing leadership, communication, and problem solving skills. It strives hard to make its students responsible citizens by providing them lifelong learning. The university is providing degrees at UG, PG, Diploma, and Doctorate level in its own campus and the colleges or institutes affiliated with it. B.A, B.Sc, BBA, BCA, B.P.Ed, B.Com, BBA LL. B (Hons), L.L.M, M.A, M.Sc, MPA, etc courses are offered by the university in different disciplines.

About Campus life
The University campus is located in Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The campus infrastructure was designed in a way supporting the educational journey of the students. Students are provided several basic and additional facilities for their overall development. The campus is equipped with world-class academic and residential facilities to provide barrier-free education and comfortable stay to its students. Some of the necessary infrastructure facilities available for students are covered in the following points: Library: The library in the university is known by the name Prof. Bhubaneswar Behera Central Library. It stocks over 1,40,000 books, 3,000+ thesis and dissertations, 9,000+ e-journals, 300+ e-books, 14,000+ bound volumes, 400+ CD/DVDs, 100+ print journals, and more. The library also has a reading facility for visually impaired students. Hostel: Students are provided accommodation in the 4 boys’ hostel: Bhagirathi, Satadru, Brahmaputra, and Mahanadi Hostels for PG students and Mahodadhi Hostel for M.Phil/Ph.D Scholars. To reside girl students 3 girl hostels: Narmada, Pravabati Devi, and Silver Jubilee Ladies Hostels are constructed in the campus with full-fledged facilities for learning and comfortable stay. Reservation criteria is followed by the university, while allotting hostel rooms to the applied candidates. Sports: The University promotes sports activities and encourages its students to take part in various national and international sports events and competitions. The campus is equipped with sports facilities like Basketball Court, Table Tennis Hall, Multipurpose Playground, Badminton Courts, Yoga Complex, Shooting Range, Kho-Kho Court, Cricket Practice Net, etc. Separate gymnasium for girl and boy students is also available. Health Centre: Medical facilities come under the primary and basic requirements in any university. Hence, a Health Centre has been operating in the university since 1972. A medical officer is appointed to provide health services to students, staff, faculty and their families. Medical services are also provided to local rural people. Other Facilities: Auditorium, Bank, Transportation, Computer Centre, Post Office, Canteen, etc.
