All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhopal, popularly known as AIIMS Bhopal, is a public autonomous body for medical education and research. The institute has obtained the status of the ‘Institute of National Importance’ and is located at Saket Nagar, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. AIIMS Bhopal was established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). The institution is approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC), erstwhile the Medical Council of India (MCI). AIIMS Bhopal has been ranked 38th in the medical category in the NIRF Ranking List 2023. Last year, it was not among the first 100 colleges in the medical category. In 2004, the Government of India decided to establish a new AIIMS at Rishikesh, Bhopal, Patna, Jodhpur, Bhubaneswar, and Raipur. Although the announcement was made in 2003 during Atal Bihari Vajpayee's tenure, the project was delayed due to a power outage at the facility. The AIIMS Bhopal campus launched its first Department of Education, Community Medicine, and Family Medicine (CFM) in September 2012, formed the Institute Body (IB) in July 2013, and began graduation courses in January 2017.
