The West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS) Kolkata is the second university in India providing education and conducting research in veterinary and animal sciences, fishery sciences and dairy sciences. The university was set-up in the year 1995 and has gained “State University” status with the approval of UGC. The university is working to fulfill its objective of providing quality education in the livestock and fisheries sectors to increase productivity and to accelerate innovative technologies to cater to the needs of the farming community in West Bengal. WBUAFS offers UG, PG, and research level courses in diverse areas relating to livestock and fisheries sectors. M.V.Sc and Ph.D in Animal Nutrition, Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, M.F.Sc in Fishing Technology & Engineering, M.F.Sc and Ph.D in Aquaculture, B.Tech (Dairy Technology), M.Tech in Dairy Engineering are some of the courses run by the university. About Campus life
WBUAFS has set-up different campuses with one at Belgachia (main campus), Mohanpur, and Chakgaria in Kolkata, West Bengal. The campuses are equipped and have decent infrastructure facilities which are upgraded from time to time to meet the changing requirements in education. Here is the list of some of the facilities available in the WBUAFS campus: Library: The Central Library is the knowledge hub of the university. It has been in existence at WBUAFS since its bifurcation from the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya. The Central Library stocks a vast collection of learning resources which include 25,000+ books, 200+ e-books, foreign and Indian e-journals, etc. Other than providing wide options of information sources, there are various facilities available in the library which facilitates effective learning for its readers. Some of the facilities and services are Printing, InterLibrary Loan, Resource sharing through Document Delivery, Book Bank, Wi-Fi, Photocopy, Reference Service, and more. Central Instrument Laboratory: The University has a Central Instrument Laboratory equipped with the latest scientific equipment to conduct research more easily and efficiently. The funds for the equipment have been collected from different agencies like, Government of India, West Bengal Government, ICAR, etc. Hostel: Separate hostels are constructed in the campus for all girl and boy students pursuing different courses in the university. Total 9 hostels are constructed in the university premises, of which six are boys’ hostels and three are girls’ hostels. Other Facilities: Classrooms, Guest House, Canteen, Medical Facilities, etc.
