About University

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University was established by the Agricultural School at Saidapet, Madras and Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai in 1971. It was established with a goal to reduce poverty through research, extension programs, and agricultural education in rural areas. TNAU is a State University recognised by ICAR. Vision: Promoting allied processes and science based agriculture in Tamil Nadu for helping the agriculture-based industries and farmers to compete in national and global markets through research, outreach programs, and education. Mission: To provide quality agricultural education through training and research, ensuring food security through advancements in technology, enhancing the standards of living of the farming community, and commercialisation of agriculture. About Campus life
TNAU provides different facilities for the holistic development of the students. The University provides the students with all the basic amenities which include smart classrooms, laboratories, auditorium, meeting halls, NCC, internet, and more as mentioned below: Library: The library is spread over 20000 square feet area and can accommodate 300+ members. It is partially air-conditioned and has a rich collection of 2 Lakhs+ Documents which include Books, Journals, Thesis, Back Volumes of Journals, Reports, CDs, e-Resources, e-Databases, e-Journals, remote access to online resources, etc. The in-house operations are computerised through KOHA and provide OPAC services, etc. Hostel: The University provides separate residential facilities for both male and female students in the main campus. The male students are provided with 6 hostels and female students are provided with 4 hostels. Along with this, an international hostel is available for international students. The hostels are equipped with furnished rooms, study rooms, reading rooms, TV, mess which serves both vegetarian and non – vegetarian food, parlour for women, dry cleaning, saloon for men, vehicle repairing center, photo copying, cell phone recharge center, and all the basic amenities. Medical: The University has a Health Centre which provides medical care for chronic diseases, medical emergencies, and common ailments for all the students. It organises eye camps, screening camps, etc. It also has a dispensary, medical equipment, beds, etc. for the treatment and diagnosis of the patients. The Health Centre also provides first aid, lab testing, immunisation against viruses, symptomatic treatment for common diseases, etc
