About University

The foundation stone of Dr. Harisingh Gour University also known as Doctor Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya Sagar was established in 1946. It was formerly known as the University of Saugor. In 2009, it was approved as a Central University by the UGC. It is also recognised by AICTE and accredited by NAAC with “A+” Grade. The University envisions of becoming an academic centre that provides advanced education in various disciplines of Sciences, Arts, and Technologies for the upliftment of the young generation and to make them globally skilled and competent individuals. Its mission is to prepare, contribute, and strive for the students’ development by providing them with an energetic and diverse learning environment. About Campus life
Central Library: The Central Library of the university is known as Jawaharlal Nehru Library which is situated at the centre of the University Teaching Departments in order to assist students in their academic and research activities on a regular basis. The library stocks more than 3 Lacs books and journals, 150+ print journals, manuscripts, and reference books. It also has institutional membership in DELNET, INFLIBNET, National Digital Library, and several other societies. ICT Facilities: Multiple Departments of the university have classrooms and seminar halls equipped with Wi-Fi, LCD, Audio-Video recording, LAN connectivity, Smartboards, and other latest facilities. Hostel: The campus provides approximately 4 boys’ hostels namely Tagore, Vivekananda, Raman, and Bhaba. There are around 450+ rooms available in these hostels where staff has been appointed to manage regular activities. Each hostel has a separate canteen and a mess. Each hostel has different accommodation facilities along with amenities like Washrooms, RO water, Wi-Fi, TV Rooms, Newspapers, etc. There are separate hostels for girls near the Science block with common facilities like Recreation Rooms, Sick Rooms, Wi-Fi connection, Indoor Games, Mess, etc. The names of the girls’ hostels are Nivedita, Rani Lakshmi Bai Kanya, and Saraswati Girls Hostel. Sports: The University has facilities to conduct outdoor and indoor games where students can play sports like Cricket, Kabaddi, Tennis, Volleyball, Chess, Athletics, Football, Kho-Kho, Hockey, Table Tennis, etc. Health Centre: The Health & Sanitation Department of the university works at an initial level as a healthcare centre where students are provided with preventive healthcare facilities. Other Facilities: Bank, Post Office, Coffee House, Mental Health Counselling, Campus Residences, Remedial Coaching Centre, etc.
