With the approval of UGC, Punjab Agricultural University was founded in 1962. It is also approved by ICAR. The University aims to accomplish excellence in academic research, teaching, and learning by imparting valuable education. Its mission is to apply, adapt, and undertake research to advance appropriate cost-effective agriculture technologies that can assist in the growth of agro-based industries of the state.

About Campus life
The land covered by Punjab Agricultural University is approximately 1222 acres including Residential and Research Farm areas. Each constituent college of the university consists of double or triple storey buildings and multiple departments. Each institute has a sufficient number of classrooms, laboratories, seminar halls, computer rooms, and committee rooms. State-of-the-Art Smart classrooms are built within the premises of each college equipped with LCD projectors, internet connectivity, interactive board, and recording amenities. Additional facilities at the university are mentioned below: Auditoria: The campus has multiple auditoria with varying seating capacities suitable to organise different types of programs. Every auditorium has AV equipment with comfortable seating capacities. There is also an Open Air Theatre and except this all the auditoriums have proper light, stage, and sound arrangements. Library: The University has Dr M S Randhawa Library that is used to conduct various research and academic activities. It is a five storey building that has a seating capacity for approximately 760 students. It has around 2 Reading halls namely Sh. T P Saxena and Dr Kulbir Singh Gill that remain open 24x7 with Wi-Fi connectivity. The collection includes 420200+ documents which comprises of books, CDs, and bound periodicals to meet students’ requirements. It also has subscriptions of approximately 10+ newspapers, 11+ magazines, 4000+ e-journals, and 1170+ e-books. Museum and Art Gallery: The campus has museums and art galleries like Museum of Social History and Rural Life of Punjab, Dr H L Uppal Museum of Water and Power Resources of Northern India, Soils Museum, Dr Mohinder Singh Randhawa Art Gallery, Museum of History of Agriculture, Museum of Natural History, and Apiculture Gallery. Hostels: The campus provides separate residential amenities for its boy and girl students. All the hostels have indoor games facilities and Wi-Fi connectivity. There is a separate International Hostel for foreign students. Sports: The University has sports and games facilities equipped with required infrastructure and facilities. Different sports that can be played in the campus are Shooting, Hockey, Badminton, Cycling, Football, Handball, etc. It can accommodate approximately 2000 students.
