About University

Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research - IGIDR Mumbai was established and funded by the Reserve Bank of India. It was an autonomous research society when registered on November 14, 1986 and later recognised as Deemed to be University under section 3 of the UGC Act. Initially the institute was started as a research institution but gradually developed into a full-fledged teaching cum research organisation in 1990. Now it is also accredited by NAAC. Vision: The vision of IGIDR is to encourage and carry out research on developmental issues from a broad interdisciplinary standpoint. It aims to gain insights into the process of development by disseminating the knowledge acquired. Mission: It aims to undertake projects or activities for the advancements of development and social welfare by carrying out training for advanced degrees and by promoting cooperative endeavors between research scholars and institutions in India and abroad. The university is providing degrees to various courses at PG, Doctorate, and M.Phil. level. About Campus life
The institutes’ location is on a hillside in Goregaon, a few kilometers away from the Goregaon suburban railway station. The campus area is sprawling over 14 acres and the architecture of the building is inspired by the ancient Elephanta and Jogeshwari caves. Students and staff of the institute are provided with all the amenities required for a convenient stay in an environment that supports innovative learning. The campus is connected through LAN and Wi-Fi and has a number of other facilities like: Library: The library of the university has a huge collection of books, journals, CD-ROM databases and more learning resources that makes it one among the leading professional research and reference libraries in the country. It has over 39,000 printed documents, subscribed to 450+ national and international journals, and has correlation with over 100 organisations globally for the exchange of the publications and inter library loan arrangement. Sports Facilities: IGIDR believes in the overall development of the students, hence it provides various facilities for sports like Table Tennis, Badminton, Lawn Tennis, Jogging Track, and more. For the physical and mental fitness of the students there is a fully equipped gymnasium also. Hostel: Students from far off locations are provided hostel accommodation with all the basic facilities necessary for the comfortable stay. There is also a guest house with 50 rooms for the visitors, parents, and guardians. A restroom has also been provided in the administration block. Canteen: A well maintained canteen is functioning at the university premise. The university has subsidised canteen facilities for students and employees. Other Facilities: Seminar Halls, Medical Facility, Conference Hall, Auditorium, Computer Centers, Research Blocks, etc.
