Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), Mumbai is an esteemed university founded in 2005 following the act passed under section 3 of the UGC Act. The institute was started to foster in-depth capabilities in nuclear science and engineering and facilitate its conversion into technology advancement. It is approved by AICTE, recognised by MHRD, and is accredited by NAAC. Vision: HBNI’s vision is to promote interdisciplinary research by serving basic research and technology development and nurturing an environment for captivating high quality manpower in the nuclear sciences and other technology related fields. Mission: It aims for the progress of indigenous nuclear technological capability by fostering excellence in Sciences and Mathematics. The university is offering various PG, Diploma, and Doctorate level courses under its constituent institutions. The following are the centers functioning under HBNI: Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC), Kolkata Indira Gandhi Research for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam Harish-Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), Mumbai Institute of Plasma Research (IPR), Gandhinagar Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), Indore Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), Kolkata Institute of Physics (IoP), Bhubaneswar Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc), Chennai National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar (Off Campus Centre) HBNI offers a varied range of academic programs for its students in various disciplines. The educational institution is the only one offering research opportunities in the field of nuclear science and engineering. About Campus life
HBNI provides excellent infrastructure facilities. The campus is located in Anushaktinagar Mumbai, a one among the residential townships of the Department of Atomic Energy of the Government of India. The complex area is vast with abundant green natural environment and lots of facilities for the convenient stay and effective learning. Some of the facilities provided to the university students are: Canteen: A variety of food items are available at the canteen located at the Anushaktinagar complex and that too at subsidised rates. Moreover, facilities to buy daily useful things and vegetable and fruit shops are also available across the township. Medical Facilities: Primary health care facilities are provided through various dispensaries while the secondary cases are referred to BARC Hospital. A multispecialty hospital is also functioning inside the campus area providing various facilities under Contributory Health Services Scheme. Sports Facilities: Many apartment complexes at Anushaktinagar have their own grounds with facilities for both outdoor and indoor games. It has one field each for Cricket, Football, and Hockey and 9 floodlit Tennis Courts, 2 Volleyball Courts, 2 Basketball Courts, and a number of Badminton Courts. There is also a club which organises various sports events, and summer coaching camps for children in sports, dance, etc. Transportation: Convenient transportation facilities are available from parts of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Local Three Wheeler Taxis are available to go around the wide spread campus. Other Facilities: Bank, ATM, Library, Laboratory, Hostel, Community Hall, Child Day Care Facility, etc.
