National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal is located in Mangalore City, Karnataka State, India. The Institute was established as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC) in 1960, and upgraded as National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in 2002. Mangalore is the headquarters of the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada, and boasts an important centre of education, business and trade in the state. Sri. U. Srinivasa Mallya, a visionary and a philanthropist, contributed immensely to the development of the coastal region of Karnataka, and his effort towards establishment of KREC (now NITK) is the most significant one. In recognition of his role as the founder and architect of the institute, the campus premises is named after him as Srinivasnagar.

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Surathkal, also known as NITK, has a 295.35-acre campus in Surathkal, Mangalore, India: Location The campus is located on both sides of National Highway 66. Features The campus has a main building, hostels, residential quarters, shopping complexes, banks, and cafeterias. The western campus has guest houses and the departments of the circuit branches. Amenities The campus has a staff club, post office, schools, health care center, playgrounds, auditorium, students activities center, swimming pool, gymkhana, and tennis and volleyball courts. Programs NIT Surathkal offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in engineering, science, and management.
Hostel and facilities
Accommodation: The hostels have single-seater and shared rooms for 2–3 people. Connectivity: The rooms have high-speed broadband and Wi-Fi internet. Dining: There are separate dining halls for each hostel block, serving different cuisines. Blocks: The campus has separate blocks for girls and a separate hostel for post-graduate students. Number of rooms: There are 2,893 rooms for boys and 750 rooms for girls. Hostel fees: Hostel fees are paid through the IRIS Login Portal of the students. Hostel office: The NITK Hostel Trust manages the hostel activities. The NITK Surathkal campus is located on the shores of the Arabian Sea on National Highway 66. The campus has a private beach, a lighthouse, a swimming pool, playgrounds, and a food court. It also has a health care center, a post office, two schools, and a staff club
