Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute shortly abbreviated as RKMVERI was established in the year 2005 with the passing of the UGC act declaring the institute as deemed-to-be university. However, the institute was originally started with the name Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira in 1939, sponsored by the renowned spiritual non-profit organisation, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. RKMVERI was also formerly known by the name Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University (RKMVU). The institute is accredited by NAAC with “A++” grade. Vision: The vision of the institute is to impart life-building and character-making education which is rooted in science and technology along with ancient heritage and legacy. It strives hard to become a centre of excellence of ancient wisdom and modern knowledge. Mission: RKMVERI works to fulfill its mission of providing excellent teaching and research to its students by blending ancient knowledge and values of the east with the scientific and technological efficiency of the west. It trains and educates its students to make them socially responsible citizens to create peace and harmony in the world. At present, the institute is running its several courses in the four campuses situated at Belur Math (Kolakata), Coimbatore campus, Narendrapur (Kolkata), and Ranchi campus. Among all four campuses, Belur campus is the main campus, and the institute’s headquarter is also situated here. The institute is providing degrees under many departments covering subjects like Mathematics, Agriculture, Yoga, Management, Sanskrit, Computer Science, Physics, etc. The various academic programs like B.A, M.Sc, Ph.D, PG Diploma in Yoga, M.Phil, and more are offered in the 6 schools operating under RKMVERI. Among the six schools three schools are operating in the Belur campus are: School of Mathematical Sciences School of Rehabilitation and Sports Sciences School of Indian Heritage

About Campus life
Belur Math of the RKMVERI is sprawled over forty acres of land on the banks of the holy river Ganga in Howrah District of West Bengal. The campus is equipped with all basic and few additional facilities to facilitate its students with an enthusiastic learning environment and to make them feel homely. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled to meet the demands of modern day education. The other facilities present in the campus are described briefly in the following points: Hostels: To accommodate outstation students, hostels are constructed in the campus. The Sanskrit Department is completely residential. Besides students, residential quarters are also built to provide accommodation to faculty and non-teaching staff. Central Library: The Central Library has been functioning since the establishment of the institute in 2005. It is housed in a two story new building complex called Prajna Bhavan. At present, it holds a collection of more than 40,000 general and reference books. Apart from the printed resources, the library has an extensive collection of e-learning resources like e-journals, e-books, e-magazines, etc. There are many facilities available in the library like reading room, printer and scanner machine, installation of RFID and BarCode technology, computers, and more. Sports: A well-maintained playground with facilities for outdoor games facilities like football field, cricket ground, volleyball court, basketball court, hockey field, etc. are present in the institute’s premises. An indoor stadium is also built to play various indoor games like chess, carom, etc. Other Facilities: Computer labs, Gymnasium, Video-Conferencing, Seminar Halls, Meditation Centre, Auditorium, Canteen, Charitable Dispensary, and more.
