Bhatkhande Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya (BSVV) Lucknow also known by the name Bhatkhande Music Institute is an autonomous institution established in 1926 as “Marris College of Music”. In 1966 the government of Uttar Pradesh brought the institute under their control and renamed it as “Bhatkhande College of Hindustani Music”. The institute was declared “Deemed University” on the request of the State Government of Uttar Pradesh on 24th October, 2000, and then in 2022, it was declared a State University. It is actively involved in imparting education, research, and instruction on various forms of Indian music. Vision: The institutes’ vision is to cultivate in an individual, Indian cultural, musical, emotional, logical, and moral assimilation of a person to evolve as a person with high moral values and capable of facing the social and environmental challenges. Mission: The mission of the institute is to serve vibrant and comprehensive wisdom surroundings dedicated to the education, research and spreading of Indian culture in all its extent. Bhatkhande Music Institute offers courses at UG, PG, Doctorate, Diploma, and Certificate level. Bachelor’s in Performing Arts, Master’s in Performing Arts, Praveshika, Parichaya, Parangat, are some of the courses offered in the university. These programs are offered under the four departments. About Campus life
For a better learning approach it is very important for any institute to provide an environment enriched with learning opportunities for students. Therefore at BSVV students are provided with all the facilities necessary for effective learning and comfortable stay. There is a Library at the university with a rich collection of books, journals, e-books, etc to better understand the Indian historical music and dance. Workshops are also present at the university premise to train students to become experts in their field. There is also a recording studio to maintain the record of Seminars, Conferences, and lecture demonstrations held in the university. An auditorium with a seating capacity of 500 people and light and sound facilities and 2 green rooms is present at the campus. Apart from the excellent academic facilities there are several other facilities provided at the campus for the convenience of students, so that they can concentrate in their studies. A well maintained canteen is functioning at the university premise to cater the hunger needs of the students and staff. Hostel facility is also available for the students from far away locations with all the basic amenities required for living. There is a guest house also for visitors. For recreational and health purposes, sports facilities are also provided at the campus. Medical facilities are served timely and to the students in need.
