About Campus life
The main campus of the university i.e. Palkalaiperur campus is spread over an area of 432.42 acres. Initially the main campus was spread over 1000 acres of land, but as the time passed the south campus at Palkalaiperur campus was donated to Anna University of Technology. The main campus of the university was reconstructed and is equipped with the state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities. All the departments have smart classrooms, laboratories with the latest equipment, and computer facilities for research. There is an air-conditioned auditorium with seating capacity of nearly 200 persons. Other facilities in the campus are covered in the points below:
Library: The Library is the knowledge hub of the university that has existed in the campus since the foundation of the university in 1982. It is spread over an area of 6215.56 square meters and holds over 94,000 volumes of books and subscribes to 200+ national and international journals. Students can access 10,000+ journals, 8,000+ e-books, 2200+ CDs and DVDs, and more learning resources. There is a beautiful garden library situated in a lawn to relieve students from stress, so that they can do their study in a peaceful and eco-friendly environment.
Hostel: Hostel accommodation is provided by the university at affordable prices. Currently, the university has 9 hostels, of which 4 are for boys and 5 for girl students. The Sindhu and Gangai hostels are situated at the Khajamalai Campus while the other 7 hostels: Cauvery, Ponni, Mullai, Bhavani, Porunai, Kurinji, and Vaigai Hostels are located in the main campus. Facilities available for hostlers include dining halls, Wi-Fi, recreation center, hot water facility in the bathrooms, playing ground, television and cable connectivity, and more. A separate warden is appointed to administer hostel activities and security concerns.
Transportation: Conveyance facilities are provided to both students and staff. The university buses ply daily between the city and the Palkalaiperur Campus to pick up and drop students in morning and evening.
Sports: BDU Tiruchirappalli has excellent sports infrastructure to encourage the active participation of students in sports activities. There is an indoor stadium with facilities for games like chess, table-tennis, carom, weight-lifting, power-lifting, and more. Outdoor sports facilities include Standard Athletic Track, Ball Badminton Court, Cricket Field, Hockey Field, Volleyball Court, Badminton Court, Kho-Kho Court, Basketball Concrete Court, etc. Other than sports, special attention has been given on maintaining and improving physical fitness of the students. For this, a Fitness Centre with the latest machines and gym assistant is open in the campus. Yoga training is given at the Yoga center. Inter-Collegiate Sports and Tournaments are also organised by the university.
Medical Facility: A Health Centre is located close to the administrative building covering a 300 square foot area. The Center provides treatment of general health-related issues and has first-aid medicine, electrocardiogram, IRR lamp, and other necessary equipment. Emergency cases are referred to nearby hospitals and a 24x7 ambulance facility is also available for emergencies.
