Established on September 4, 1978, Anna University is a unitary university located in Chennai. Anna University campus (main) is spread over 189 acres of land. As per the QS World University Rankings 2024, the university bagged 185th rank with a score of 28.2. As per the NIRF Rankings 2024, Anna University secured 18th rank in the Overall category, 14th rank in the University category, and 13th rank in the Research category. Furthermore, Anna University has received an "A" grade from NAAC with a CGPA of 3.46 on a four-point scale. Anna University has four main university department centres namely, the College of Engineering (CEG), Alagappa College of Technology (ACT), Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), and School of Architecture & Planning (SAP). Apart from this AU has 13 constituent colleges, three regional campuses at Tirunelveli, Madurai and Coimbatore and 593 affiliated colleges. It is very favorable for learning, with the Adyar River running through the northern parts of the campus. The facilities and infrastructure at the Anna University campus are ideal for creating a good, cheerful, and comfortable environment for students. Individual hostels for males and girls are available at the University. The library of the university is well-stocked. The facilities at Anna University guarantee that students have a pleasant experience while on campus. Students at AU have access to both indoor and outdoor sports facilities. Students can also take advantage of a medical centre, contemporary IT infrastructure, and a convenience store at the Anna University campus. Library: Over 1,47,065 volumes are in the library's collection. There are 12,953 books in the Book Bank, 112 current periodicals, 31,000 journals, and 42 magazines and newspapers. E-books (over 5000) and E-journals (over 20,000) are also available in the library. Students can borrow educational CDs from the library. Hostel: Water purifiers, a common area, a leisure room, a mess, a TV, laundry services, security, and a monitoring system are all standard features. A unique hostel has been built for students admitted under the CIWGC, NRI, and FN categories. Air conditioning, a geyser, a mini-fridge, and a microwave oven are included in every room. A common room has been equipped with washing machines for the benefit of the students. Sports Complex: The sports complex of Anna University includes facilities like a badminton court, basketball court, cricket ground, football ground, swimming pool, tennis court, hockey ground, volleyball court, handball ground, kabaddi ground, kho-kho ground, and table tennis.
