About University

The Central Institute of Fisheries Education was established in 1961 by the Government of India. The purpose is to impart education and training to service personnel of fisheries to support their development activities. It is committed to develop trained and qualified manpower to plan, execute, and manage fisheries development programs. The institute also provides basic research and strategic research in the domain of fisheries science. CIFE is a Deemed University which is approved by UGC and is under the administrative control of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and was established with the assistance of UNDP / Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO). Vision: To become a world-class organisation which provides leadership in fisheries research and education. Mission: To achieve research and academic excellence by attracting globally competent students and creating state-of-the-art infrastructure.

About Campus life
CIFE Mumbai provides state of the art infrastructure and facilities to the students. It includes classroom with modern visual and audio aids, farm facilities, field centres, laboratories, guest house, museum, and many more which are mentioned below: Library: National Library for Fisheries and Allied Sciences has a wide collection of Journals, more than 34000 Books, 130+ E-Books, access to online databases, subscription to Indian and Foreign Journals, OPAC, Wi-Fi, etc. Aquarium: The institute has an aquarium which includes shellfish, finfish, and other aquatic animals. Vessels: There are 2 vessels to support the training and on-board research on fishing, oceanography, navigation, and related studies. These 2 vessels are MFV Saraswati and MFV Narmada. The MFV Saraswati vessel is equipped with Very High Frequency Radio, GPS, Sonar, Radiotelephone, Trawl Eye, and Echo sounder. Hostel: Separate accommodation facilities are provided to all the students of the Institute. It has 2 boys’ hostels and 1 girls’ hostel. The hostels have all the basic amenities. Sports: The Institute provides sport facilities to the students which include Badminton Courts, Basketball Courts, Tennis Court, Carrom Board, Chess Board, etc. The students are encouraged to take part in ICAR level sports meet.
