Pune is the largest education hub of west with the kind and number of colleges that the university has. Savitribai Phule Pune University (A.K.A. SPPU & University of Pune (UniPune)) was formed on 1949. Every year, n number of students from all corners of India and the world come to Pune and study in some of the prestigious colleges of the university. When comparing with other educational centres in India, Pune is without an iota of doubt the safest and most peaceful city. The city is known for its climate as both end of the city has hill stations like Lonavala and Mahabaleshwar. Savitribai Phule University has some of the most established colleges under its belt like the Symbiosis College, BMCC, Ferguson and others. The university offers some of the best programs in various domains of Arts, Commerce, Science, Management Studies, and languages. Savitri Bai Phule University is positioned among the top universities in Pune and is located in Northern Pune. The University is just 5kms from the Shivaji Nagar Railway Station and 8 kms from the Pune Railway Station. The university is built in an area of 411 acres and houses one of the most premier B-Schools in PUMBA. The university is one of the largest as it has over 300 recognized research institutes and over 600 colleges affiliated with the university that offers many UG, PG, and Doctorate courses. The university facilities are such that many foreigners are also attracted by it and they enrol at the university and university affiliated college in numbers. For foreign students the university has a special NRI hostel in its campus.

About Campus life

The towering building of the University of Pune (UniPune) used to be the house of the Bombay governors during the British Raj. The university is spread in over 400 acres and is one of the most picturesque campuses going around. Probably one of the biggest in Pune. The lawns of the campus are lush green and are decorated with some glorious fountains that are there in existence from the British times. All the buildings of the university give a royal look and has been used by many celebrities for their shoots. Movies like Dhol, and Navra Maja Navsacha has been shot at the Savitribai Phule Pune University campus. The University campus is full of trees which are over 100 years old. Those trees are known for providing beauty and shades to the students of the university. The entire surrounding of the university is so peaceful that for students who wish to do serious studies can find no better place than this. The University is majorly identified with its Main Building. The main block is one of the most monumental blocks as it’s a British architecture marvel. The Dean’s chamber, Vice-Chancellor office, and all the university Records Section are in the main block. There are many seminar halls and where academic meetings takes place. Some of the most used seminar halls are Sant Dnyaneshwar Sabhagriha, Yashwantrao Chavan Sabhagriha, Sant Gadge Maharaj Sabhagriha, and Shivaji Sabhagriha. The campus also houses PUMBA, one of the university’s top management schools. The university library has books of history and the new age world as the library of the university has been preserved since last 150 odd years.
