About University

Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Amarkantak was established following an act passed in the Parliament of India in 2007. The University started its academic session from July 2008 onwards. It is fully-funded by the Central Government and has jurisdiction over the entire nation. The University was declared “Central University” with the approval of UGC. The University's prime objective is to provide higher education to the tribal people of India, however, the university is open to all. It aims to provide high-quality knowledge and research facilities in tribal art, culture, forest-based economic activities, languages, technological advancements, flora, fauna, and natural resources of the tribal areas in India. Students are provided degrees to a number of UG, PG, Diploma, and Research courses like BA, B.Sc, BBA, BCA, B.Ed, B.Com (Hons), B.Voc, B.Pharm, MA, M.Sc, MBA, MCA, M.Com, Ph.D in different disciplines, and more. About Campus life
The University campus is 22 kms away from Pendra Road Railway Station and the main Amarkantak town is 25 kms away from the campus. Students are provided a 24 hours internet access. A well-established NKN centre is present in the campus that includes a high-speed internet lab and video conferencing room. An Innovation Club is also present in the campus to explore innovative ideas. Besides these, there are many facilities present in the university premise to provide an effective learning and homely environment to the students. Some of them are covered in the points below: Library: The University Library started functioning in 2009. It is a centre of information for students and staff. The total volumes in the library are over 56,000 including donated books. The digital resources of the library are subscribed through INFLIBNET, e-ShodhSindhu, and Taylor & Francis South Asia Archive. Apart from the wide learning resources, readers are facilitated with services like Reading room, Photocopy service, Anti-plagiarism checking software, Separate sections for reference collection, tribal studies, Competitive exams, and more. Hostel: Both boy and girl students are accommodated separately in the hostels constructed within the campus, namely, Govind Guru Boys Hostel, New Boys Hostel, OBC Girls Hostel, Rani Durgavati Girls Hostel, and Sone Hostel. Mess facility is available for hostlers in each hostel. Separate quarters are made to accommodate staff members. The Guest House in the campus is open for guests, parents, and guardians coming to the campus. Canteen: A canteen exists in a separate building in the campus, catering to the food demands of the academic community. Students are offered a variety of snacks, refreshments, bakery items, and other food stuff in the canteen. Medical Facilities: The University has a Medical Cell which provides medical assistance round the clock. A medical officer, pharmacist, nurse, and dresser are appointed to look after the patients. Other Facilities: Language Labs, Computer Laboratory, Bank & ATM, Post Office, etc.
